Setting Up Thermal Printer and Cash Drawer
Guide to connecting 58mm and 80mm thermal printers to the Kontafico POS and enabling automatic cash drawer opening.
Supported printer types
Kontafico POS supports thermal receipt printers in three modes: browser printing (any printer connected to the PC), network printer with a fixed IP (58mm or 80mm), and WebUSB printer (direct connection without drivers).
Most ESC/POS-compatible thermal printers (Epson, Star, Bixolon, Citizen, and generic equivalents) work with Kontafico.
- •Browser (Windows/Mac print dialog) — for occasional use
- •Network IP (LAN) 58mm or 80mm — recommended for heavy use
- •WebUSB — no installation, direct connection
Configuring a network IP
In POS → Terminal settings → Printer, select "Network printer" and enter the local IP address of your printer (e.g., 192.168.1.100). Make sure the printer is on the same WiFi or LAN network as the device running the POS.
To assign a fixed IP to the printer, check its manual or use DHCP reservation in your router so it always receives the same IP.
Automatic cash drawer opening
Most cash drawers connect to the thermal printer via an RJ11 cable. By enabling "Open drawer on sale" in the terminal settings, Kontafico sends the ESC/POS command to the printer to open the drawer automatically after each completed sale.
You can also open the drawer manually from the POS menu if you have cashier permission.
80mm receipt printing
80mm format is the most common in commercial environments. Receipts include the business logo, company details, product breakdown, subtotal, VAT, total, payment method, and a signature line if applicable.
You can customize the receipt header and footer from POS → Terminal settings → Receipt.
